Be honest with yourself when you decide to show up here. I can't not disclose that due to my proximity to this restaurant, I feel compelled to rate it as highly as I have, BUT... The food is unbelievably cheap. There are not a lot of restaurants left that give you a large burrito for under $5 and certainly fewer that are open 24 hours (or nearly 24, the sign is slightly deceptive). It's pretty standard fare Mexican. Nothing overly special but again, I know what I am getting when I head into a place like Mezquite. Try the Adobada Pork burrito/taco. It's pretty messy and they don't always have it, but I do find it quite tasty. More than anything, the waitstaff deserve props. Dealing with drunk assholes like me on a daily, sometimes even hourly basis, while also putting a smile on says more to me than most restaurants out there. I agree that this place is not the Cordon Bleu, but I don't see the world with rose-tinted glasses and have a little more self-awareness when arriving at a place like Mezquite.

Ode to the Mezquite Oh Mezquite when I eat your bean and cheese I feel at ease at least for an hour then my stomach turns sour still you draw me back on your burritos I must snack because I had a drink too many and need to save my pennies your prices can't be beat however questionable your meat so I return again this time bringing my drunk friends we feast on supreme quesadillas and your hand rolled tortillas wondering when I will realize no matter how good your steak fries I will always be sick but your love I still pick at any hour, any time I can stumble in and somehow find a decent meal at only four dollars- truly a steal. Your food invades my stomach like Russia does Crimea, perhaps that is why I always experience such violent diarrhea. fin.

Oh, Mezquite...you're always there when I need you. You're the most reliable Mexican food in SLC. When I'm out late and I'm starving and I don't want to go home and eat cereal, there you are, ready to fill my stomach with fatty goodness. You are not the most authentic. You are not the best. But you ARE open 24 hours and you ARE cheap. Your food is always decent, especially for $5 or less. Price + convenience = good enough for me.

By far the worst chicken burrito I've ever had. There was no one in front of my friend and i yet it took 10 minutes to get our order plus another 10 to make it. The chicken is very dry and the tortilla was burnt. I wasn't able to finish my food because my mouth was so dry from it. My friend got the bacon breakfast burrito and she said that was good but it was a lot more potatoes than bacon or anything else. For two burritos, we only were given two sauces where at other places, they give me four or five. I don't know how this place is still in business.. Maybe bc is directly across the street from piper down and when you're inebriated, Mexican food is the way to go.

Typical Mexican drive through. I think it beats taco bell any day. I like the veggie burrito, and on the plus side I've never gotten sick from eating here (unlike Beto's).

Chicken tacos are fantastic! as with the pork chimichanga's.

Time and time again Mezquite fulfills my desire for late night Mexican cuisine. The food is delicious, the service patient, and the experience memorable. Try the California burrito. They are also cognizant of the drunkness of their clientele and will allow you to walk through the drive through when the lobby is closed to avoid drunk driving which is fantastic.

After giving this place one-too-many chances, I have to downgrade it to 2 stars. The food is never great and sometimes is less than mediocre. My most recent trip here was borderline terrible. I hit the drive-thru and it was busy, which is usually a good sign. When they're moving a lot of product, the quality and freshness are usually better. Not this time. I ordered 2 carne asada burritos and 3 rolled tacos with guac and cheese. The rolled tacos were soggy and had nearly zero meat. They were barely edible. One of the burritos was packed with meat and the other had barely any at all. The guac was the same story, only switched. So, I got a steak burrito and lisa got a pico/guac burrito. I'm not sure which was better/worse, since the meat was gack! There was lots of gristle and fat. And the meat was chopped and diced so finely that it was more like shredded beef than carne asada. The tortillas were also burnt! Have you ever had a sandwich on burnt toast? It sucks, right? A burrito with charcoal tortillas is even worse. I'm finished with this place. No Mas!

Oh, Mezquite. I curse and praise the day I met you. I thank you for keeping me alive the last few months, and I also thank you for being open 24 hours a day, because when hunger calls-I know you'll always answer. Truly, for the past 5ish months I have gotten a bacon breakfast burrito almost every single day. Every. Single. Day. No deviation. Bacon breakfast burritos. They sustain me all day, they're delicious, I can go there at 4am, I don't have to cook, they're only $3.55. What could be better, right? Chicken fucking tacos, that's what. Where have they been all my life? I felt like adding some zest to my palate and decided to deviate away from my life blood and holy shit. Mind. Blown. So simple, yet so delectable. Slightly more expensive (.96), slightly less sustainable (2 tacos), but god damn if it ain't worth it. Love you Mezquite. I'll see you tomorrow!

Small family owned restaurant. Delicious food. Carnitas burritos, crane asada burritos, and chicken tacos are my fav. Great value for great food.

Do NOT eat here. There was a cockroach in my breakfast burrito! The management was surly and threatening when I brought this to their attention.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
